Be it first time users or people who have used it for some time already, each person at some point feels doubtful about their routine practices. Here are some tips that all users should follow for better eye health care and hygiene.

The Basics:

  • Listen to the doctor. Unless you have a degree in medical sciences, never refrain from listening to the doctor. Before trying new things and experimenting with one’s eyes, one should remember that the eyes are one of the most sensitive part of the human body. Better safe than sorry, isn’t it?
  • Replace lenses as and when the doctor suggests. Similarly, wear them as and when the doctor suggests. Never repeat use and throw lens, not worth it.
  • Sleeping in lens that aren’t meant for an overnight use increase the chances of eye infections and other unnecessary problems.
  • The right and the left eye differ. One may not mix up the right and the left contact lens. To make it easier, one may remember to start with the same eye every time.
  • For users of gas-permeable lenses, taking off the contacts is slightly different. Using the fingers, pull the corner of the eye towards the ear and bend slightly. Place the palm of the hand right below the eye simultaneously and the contacts should pop out automatically.

Lens Cleansing Solutions

Contact lens have cleansing solutions. Newbies may start by getting recommendations from their doctor.

  • Daily use lenses such as the Acuvue moist daily contact lens need special care in terms of hygiene. They should be rinsed, disinfected and cleansed properly before storage, ready for the next use. There are several multi-purpose solutions available for this purpose.
  • While research suggests that rubbing contacts cleans them better, there are no-rub solutions available for purchase too. It is still advisable that one consults with the eye doctor before making a purchase.
  • When it comes to solutions, many doctors advise against hydrogen peroxide based solutions. They’re a risky business overall and there are simpler options in the market.
  • Use eye products and other products around the eyes that are sensitive to it. If not, consult the doctor before taking any chances. When it comes to cleaning and storing lens, there are ample safe options in the market.
  • Safe products take us to our next point- the use of quality products is paramount. Never compromise on the quality such as that of the Acuvue 1-day moist contact lens.

Lens and Water don’t mix!

  • Never wash lenses with water or wear them while bathing. It will cause eye infections more often than not.
  • This one is very basic but equally essential- sanitize your hands at the time of taking off or putting on the lenses. The same applies for when putting them away for storage, etc.

Lens cling onto wet fingers. So use dry hands. Also, do not touch the lens right after having applied moisturizer since lenses tend to stick to moisturizer residue too.
